What
happens when a former Australian journalist immigrates to London? She starts up
her own beauty inspired blog of course!
Hannah
Randall left her hometown of Queensland and moved to London in 2010. The young
writer already has family living in London, her sister had moved over prior, so
she knew she wouldn’t be alone in one of the biggest cities in the world.
Hannah managed to get a job in a bookshop but was becoming frequently
frustrated at the lack of creativity. That’s when Lippy In London was created. A beauty blog, which combines her two
favourite things – beauty and writing!
“I'd
come across a few blogs when googling lipsticks and thought 'I could totally do
this’,” the beauty blogger says.
Her blog has attracted a considerable amount of
attention and she currently has over 2,000 followers on twitter. Not bad for a
journalist in Australia.
The blog focuses on beauty tips and cosmetics |
“I currently work as a copywriter so I often
don't feel like writing after work to be honest. I write a lot of posts
on my phone whilst in the bath or late at night/before work in the mornings. If
I force myself I don't enjoy it and that would defeat the purpose. When I come
up with an idea I save it in my phone then come back to it later,” the
Australian blogger says. “I will keep going with my blog and see what happens.
I don't want to try and force anything but I'm now making more effort to post
more frequently and spend more time on social media.”
Before moving to London, Hannah worked for Gold
Coast magazine after being offered a full time job two weeks into her
internship. She spent her time writing features, editorials and interviews. She
even got to interview Napoleon Perdis of Napoleon Cosmetics, which would be similar to meeting Armancio
Ortega, owner of Zara. The young
journalist was thrilled to be given such an opportunity!

Since
establishing her blog, Hannah has realised the beauty blogging industry is
highly competitive however she has said she looks at other beauty bloggers for
inspiration for her own blog rather than as rivals. “Beauty blogging in particular is very saturated and a tad
competitive,” says the blogger.
Unlike most beauty blogs, Lippy in London is aimed at women in their mid-late twenties
whereas most beauty blogs are aimed at a younger audience. This makes Lippy In London unique because of the
different target audience.
One reader described Lippy In London as a “good read” and the blog itself was “designed
well.” She said she had been reading the blog for a year and in that time she
has seen the blog progress.
Hannah is good at giving her readers makeup
advice on twitter as she has demonstrated. Her readers often tweet her asking
for advice and she promptly replies.
The Australian blogger has plans for her blog
by saying, “I do plan to expand my blog going forward.” She admits she can’t
dedicate the time to it right now but who knows, maybe this blog is the next
big beauty blog?
